Course Completion
In order to receive your award or qualification from the Institute you must successfully complete all the assessments, assignments, exams and other requirements as set out for each subject or module within the maximum timeframes specified.
Please note that these timings are maximum timeframes and include the gathering of relevant business-related experience. Individual subjects or modules have their own timing requirements for completing coursework and submitting assignments. Please consult your Program Director for the latest requirements.
The extension of time beyond these maximum limits is only permitted via an application to the chairman of the education committee with valid reasons.
Technician Level Programs
- Certified Accounting Technician – 2 years (4 Subjects)
- Registered Cost Accountant and Registered Business Accountant – 4 years (8 Subjects)
- Graduate Management Accountant – 6 years (12 Subjects)
Professional Level Programs
- Graduate Conversion Program – 2 years (4 Conversion Subjects)
- Certified Global Business Analyst – 3 years after completion of GMA or equivalent (1 Professional subject)
- Certified Management Accountant – 5 years after completion of GMA or equivalent (2 Professional subjects)
Advanced Standing
The ICMA Education Committee has approved the following Advance Standings:
Technician Level Programs
- Certified Accounting Technician (Stage 1)
Competency based RPL given on a subject-by-subject basis (see subject outlines) - Registered Cost Accountant (Stage 2) (similar level to a Diploma in Accounting issued in Australia)
Competency based RPL given on a subject-by-subject basis (see subject outlines) - Registered Business Accountant (Stage 3) (similar level to a Advanced Diploma in Accounting issued in Australia) Competency based RPL given on a subject-by-subject basis (see subject outlines)
- Graduate Management Accountant (Stages 1-4)
With an Advanced Diploma in Accounting – 75% of subjects exempted (Stages 1, 2 & 3)
With a Recognised Professional Qualification in a Non-Accounting field – 75% of subjects exempted (Stages 1, 2 & 3)
With a Degree in Non-Accounting Field – 75% subjects exempted (Stages 1-3)
Professional Level Programs
- Graduate Management Accountant (GMA)
With a Degree in Accounting from an accredited university – Direct entry to GMA Membership. With a MBA – depending on the MBA 75%-100% may be exempted (see below) - Graduate Conversion Program
With a Degree in Non-Accounting Field – 75% subjects exempted (Stages 1-3 exempted)
With an MBA from an accredited university – Minimum of 2 subjects are exempted (Financial Modelling and Financial Management) and a maximum of 4 depending on the MBA. - Certified Global Business Analyst (CGBA)
No advanced standing given. - Certified Management Accountant
No advanced standing is given unless ICMA accredited subjects are completed in recognised universities. - MBA
With a CMA – a minimum of 4 subjects are exempted (maximum of 8) depending on the university.
